How Social Networking Has Transformed Brand Engagement

on May 10, 2012
How Social Networking Has Transformed Brand EngagementI’ve just renamed and moved from Blogger to Wordpress. While organizing my old posts dating back 2007, it was fun to determine how brand engagement has completely changed through the years. So, whadaya say we hop within the ol’ DeLorean, kick it to 88mph and have a look in the evolution of social networking.BLOGGER VERSUS REPORTERIn 2007 and 2008, a lot of the conversation was heated with writers and reporters going at one another while we examined social media’s effect on journalism. The

The Conversation Chasm

on Jan 9, 2012
The Conversation ChasmSomething I’ve been mulling over for a while was solidified over the course of several recent conversations with my colleague, Alan Kercinik. It has to do with the way brands traditionally launch a product/service versus a more optimal approach that can take better advantage of earned conversations.  At the heart of the discussion is what we call the Conversation Chasm. And while not new thinking - I’ve seen people write about the topic and a Google search reveals several mentions of the term,

Best of the Web: 2011

on Dec 22, 2011
This week, we turned our weekly DI staff meeting into a digital show and tell. Our DC team of designers, developers, strategists, art directors and producers shared some of the videos, websites, digital experiences and apps outside of our own work that we think are cool, cutting-edge, inspiring or just fun to watch. So, take a break from online holiday shopping working and enjoy our Best of the Web picks. It’s amazing what an artist can do with 1 pen and 3.2 million dots. Watch a beautifully produced video

Cup of Joe: Pep! Pep! Pep! Pep Talk?

on Dec 3, 2011
Pep talks are awesome aren’t they? Heck, I watched the one above 6 times yesterday and I don’t even like football! A good pep talk can inspire people to do amazing things. We see them all the time in sports, political campaigns, marketing, and sometimes even in our churches! I remember the first time I saw this one from the movie Braveheart, I wanted to die for Scotland! That’s the thing about pep talks though is they inspire quick dramatic action. Unfortunately, the hype is usually short

2 Biggest Mistakes New Affiliates Make

Think back to when you first tried your hand at affiliate marketing. What was your first campaign? Was it a success? The fact of the matter is that new affiliates make tons of mistakes. Heck, even affiliates who have been in the game for years make mistakes. There are two very common, very dangerous affiliate mistakes that shine above the rest though.

Not Born this Way: Use Covers for Great Content

on Aug 29, 2011
In the fury of learning about the new music platforms, we should also take a look at some of the lower-tech ways to make music work for brands. Covers have long been a mainstay of YouTube content.  Two recent cover promotions are worth noting. A.V. Club Undercover (Starbucks) They Might Be Giants covers Chumbawamba This promotion is now over a year old; Starbucks re-upped.  The premise was fairly simple; the folks at A.V. (the straight man music site affiliated with the Onion) made a list of 25 nostalgic

Spy on Competing Blogs and Web Sites Using MixRank

on Aug 15, 2011
Spy on Competing Blogs and Web Sites Using MixRankThere’s an amazing new web site I came across last week and while it’s mainly targeted towards marketers, bloggers can use their services as well. The site is called MixRank.com, and they pretty much allow you to spy on your competitors that are using Google Adwords/Adsense. Before jumping into how the web site works, let’s first talk about why this is important from an internet marketer and blogger stand point.

PPV Advertising: Network Reviews and Case StudiesIn my setting up a PPV Campaign post, I gave a tutorial on how you can increase your profits and volume by running your own PPV (pay per view) ad campaigns. In the tutorial I used Adoori as the PPV network, but there are also many other pay per view sources out there for you to choose from.

M-Commerce Campaigns Grow 30% Over Last Quarter

on May 5, 2011
M-Commerce Campaigns Grow 30% Over Last QuarterIt’s time for another MillennialMedia SMART report. Today, we have the full results from Q1 2011 and it’s good news for mobile marketers. What we’re looking at are charts showing the potential actions attached to a mobile marketing campaign. As I understand this, the percentage does not indicate the number of users who availed themselves of those actions. However, it’s likely that there’s a correlation, right? More download options likely means more people are downloading.
