Instagram for $1 Billion: How to proceed even without the Possessing a fashionable Social Startup
on Apr 19, 2012
I keep asking myself:  Why couldn’t I have found Instagram or Pinterest? With last week’s news of Facebook obtaining photosharing application Instagram to have an eye-popping $1 billion, many social networking experts are actually turning their focus on the way forward for Pinterest, another hot, photo-centric social networking.Though I’m smarting which i didn’t create either Instagram or Pinterest, and wasn’t lucky enough to get know Mark Zuckerberg &lifier Co. in the past, there’s expect me
The Most Common Word at My House: “Why?”
on Feb 19, 2012
As a father of three boys aged five and under, there’s a word I hear a lot in my house. I’m sure other parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, child care workers, and people with kids in their lives will know what it is. “Why?” The questions come fast and while there are a few “what,” “when,” “where,” and “how” questions mixed in, “why” questions seem to dominate—at least at our place. Of course why questions are a normal
Would You Like to Pay by Cash, Credit Card or Twitter?
on Feb 16, 2012

I received an email this week about a new ebook on the rise of the app. I was interested, so I visited the website and found something I’d never seen before, a “Pay with a Tweet” option. Click the option, and you get a pre-filled Tweet (which can be altered somewhat) that mentions the product along with a link so others can get in on the deal.
Once Again, RSS Is Dead. But ONLY YOU Can Save It!
on Jan 26, 2012
About 14 months ago, I responded to myriad “RSS is Dead” stories by asking you, my RSS readers, if you were really reading. At that point, Google’s Feedburner service was telling me I had more than 200,000 subscribers, but it didn’t feel like the lights were on – I mean, that’s a lot of people, but my pageviews were low, and with RSS, it’s really hard to know if folks are reading you, because the engagement happens on the reader, not here on the site. (That’sThe Simple Power of Asking

This guest post is by Sanjeev Mohindra of Makewebworld. What is asking? It is a simple act of putting together a query in order to obtain the answer. Whether you get an answer or not depends on how a question has been framed and asked. Image used with permissionHelp Me Interview Dennis Crowley, CEO, Foursquare (And Win Free Tix to Web 2)

on Sep 26, 2011
This guest post is by Tom Ewer of Leaving Work Behind. If you were an aspiring actor, and you spotted a famous movie star on the street, would you run up to them and ask them for help? You might, but I’m willing to bet that 99 times out of 100, you would get nowhere. In fact, those odds are probably very generous. I am willing to bet that those odds would improve if you were to approach them, briefly introduce yourself, compliment them on their work, and ask if it would be okay to write to their agent with
Are You Forgetting About Win-Win Situations?
on Sep 13, 2011
I receive around 100 emails per day. Around 50% of those are people asking me to do something for them. Some want a product or service reviewed, some want feedback on their latest project, some want a question about blogging or SEO answered, some want help to choose a good domain name and so on. If I had time available I would be glad to accommodate all requests, just for the sake of helping people out. But guess what, running a dozen or so websites takes a lot of time, and as most people I struggle to
An Outsourcing Resource You Probably Never Heard About
on Feb 22, 2011
Suppose I told you I had one guy willing to work full time for you, so 40 hours per week, and that he had a good knowledge about SEO, Internet marketing and web design. What kind of salary do you think you would need to pay him? $1,000? $1,500? What if told you the salary he was asking for was $300? Sounds crazy, but it’s true. I am talking about hiring people from the Philippines. There are plenty of recent graduates there who want to work from home over the Internet, and $300 (converted to the

What makes one website highly persuasive and engaging, while others are ignored or quickly abandoned? If you took a poll asking your site visitors what’s missing from your site, they might not even be able to articulate it. And that’s exactly the point. What influences us isn’t necessarily at our conscious level of experience.
