5 Essential Tools Every Blogger Should UseCreating and maintaining a blog can be hard work, as it takes a lot of trial-and-error and can cause many headaches and frustrations. If you truly want your blog to succeed, you have to treat it as a business; this often involves putting in long hours of research, tweaking, optimizing, and much more. While those who are new to blogging often don’t realize what they’re getting themselves into, they quickly learn that blogging is not for everyone. If you’re not willing to put in the work and effort, then you

If I Were the Blogging Police…

by Guest Blogger on Feb 4, 2012
This guest post is by Karol K of ThemeFuse. Is it just me, or do you ever find yourself in a situation when you just want to lock someone up for the things they’re doing either on their own blog or while commenting on other people’s blogs? You know, moments when you wish you were the blogging police … anyone? I do. Quite often actually. And I am by no means perfect myself. But you don’t have to be perfect to have an opinion, just like you don’t have to be a musician to be able

Bloggers May Die… But Blogs Should Not!

Bloggers May Die… But Blogs Should Not!

Looking at my blog makes me nostalgic. It has been five years since I am into blogging and I have seen it growing gradually and like me, it had been through the ups and downs. Nevertheless, like inseparable friends, we stick to each other in thick and thin. But it pains me to see that there is no one else to take care of my beloved blog if I demise all of a sudden.

From Small-time Blogger to Professional Paid Speaker: My Journey

by Guest Blogger on Feb 3, 2012
This guest post is by Marcus Sheridan of The Sale Lion. We’re all communicators. That’s what we do. Some of us love the feel of pen in hand. Others find joy as the fingers hit the key pad. But for me, the magic is in the communion that occurs in front of a live audience, a place where I feel more at home than any other. Like you, I’m a blogger. I’m also a business owner. In fact, I own a swimming pool company. Ten years ago, I started the business with my two partners. The challenges of entrepreneurship

Tumblr Hires Editorial Staff to Cover Itself

Tumblr Hires Editorial Staff to Cover Itself

Tumblr is categorized as a social blogging site. That’s a nice title until you realize that there are 42 million Tumblr sites that are generating content (I hope they are not counting my account that I have done nothing with). One would hope that there is something of worth is going on in a community that big.

What 60% of ProBlogger Readers Don’t Do that’s Central to My Blogging Success

by Darren Rowse on Feb 1, 2012
A couple of weeks ago I ran a census of ProBlogger readers to help us work out how to serve you better in 2012. Thousands of people participated (thanks to everyone!), so I thought I’d share a few of the results that stood out to me. Some of them are based upon comparisons we made to last time we ran a similar survey, around two years ago. Thanks to everyone for participating in this year’s census. The above info, plus your thousands of suggestions, have given me (and the team behind

Productivity for Bloggers; How to Get the Best of Your Time

by Onibalusi Bamidele on Feb 1, 2012
Productivity for Bloggers; How to Get the Best of Your TimeMarketing, writing, networking and the likes are things we all do and see others do every day, and also with the amount of information online touching these subjects it becomes extremely easy for us to do them. For example, we all see the process of marketing, writing and networking most bloggers follow; we see exactly what they do and how they do it, and some of them are even kind enough to go to the extent of documenting their process for us. But the question is, have you ever wondered how a particular

Don’t Give Up Too Soon

by Patti Stafford on Jan 31, 2012
Don’t Give Up Too SoonOne of the biggest reasons for failure is giving up too soon. If you’ve read the short story called, “Acres of Diamonds,” you know what I’m talking about. It’s been awhile since I’ve read it, but this guy was digging for diamonds. He did this for a long time. One day, the shiny object syndrome hit him and he decided he should go look elsewhere. He did, but he never made a fortune. However, a fortune was made on the property that he left behind. He gave up too soon.

The Web’s Biggest Foe in China is the Government. Here, it’s Hollywood.

The Web’s Biggest Foe in China is the Government. Here, it’s Hollywood.

When you look back at the origins  of PIPA and SOPA, two bills before the US senate this year dealing with the Internet, you’ll see they more than likely started fermenting in the days of Napster and other free files sharing websites. The forces that be in the entertainment industry are railing against the copying on intellectual property online with these bills and there’s two sides here that seem to be gearing up for an epic battle that concerns us about the implications for Internet censorship.

The Gong Fu of Blogging

by Guest Blogger on Jan 29, 2012
This guest post is by Michael de Waal-Montgomery of The Monty Mike Times. The word Kung Fu comes from the Chinese word “Gong Fu,” which means “hard work.” Anyone who’s studied Kung Fu knows this name is well deserved. It’s tough going, no matter how good you get. Blogging is also “gong fu” sometimes. On a good day, the writing can seem to flow effortlessly, perhaps feeling something more akin to Tai Chi, or “Tai Ji Quan” in the original Chinese.
